過去のニード・フォー・スピードを最新のPCで動かすには

Windows11への乗り換えを機に、過去のニードフォースピードが最新のWindows11(64it)で動作するのか検証してみました。

基本的にはVirtual Boxの仮想環境で動作してくれることを期待値とし、動作確認を行っています。
（なお、過去のソフトを新しいOSで動かす場合、管理者として実行が必要になるケースが大半となります）

4	NEED FOR SPEED -HIGH STAKES-	〇プレイ可能だが制約あり Virtual Box (v7) + Windows(XP SP3 32bit) + Guest-Addition(=Display Driver) with 3D-Acceleration にて、ゲーム起動、サウンド鳴動等、プレイは可能。ただし、インストール完了のPOPUPが表示されるタイミングで無応答になってしまうため、 Ctrl+Alt+Del からタスクマネージャを使用してインストールを強制終了させる必要がある。（インストールはすべて完了しているので問題なし。クローズボタンを押すとアンインストールされてしまうので、必ず強制終了が必要）。 3D Device Setupは、Software Rendererを選択。（Direct3D Deviceの設定では動作不可能）	本来Win95/98向け ※Guest-Additionは、起動時にF8キー押下し、Safeモードでインストール

How to run older Need for Speed games on modern PCs

Taking the opportunity of switching to Windows 11, I decided to test whether past versions of Need for Speed would work on the latest Windows 11 (64it).

Basically, we expect it to work in a virtual environment such as Virtual Box, and we are checking its operation.
(Note that in most cases, when running older software on a new OS, you will need to run it as an administrator.)

, you can start the game, play sounds, etc.

However, the game becomes unresponsive when the installation completion popup is displayed, so
you must use Ctrl+Alt+Del to force quit the installation using Task Manager.
(The installation is complete, so there is no problem. Pressing the close button will uninstall the game, so you must force quit.)

For 3D Device Setup, select Software Renderer. (It will not work with the Direct3D Device setting.) Originally
for Win95/98.

5 NEED FOR SPEED
-PORSCHE UNLEASHED- NG: Does not work on Virtual Box (up to WinXP/7)

*This is one of my favorite series, so it’s a bit disappointing…
